For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and
you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you
welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was
sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited
me. . .Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of
these who are members of my family, you did it to me.
(Matthew 25:35-36, 40)
The people of Way of Grace, feel called to mission and ministry, because this is what Jesus did. Jesus spent most of his time with the outcast and people on the margins of society. He forgave the prostitute, dined with the tax collector, healed strangers and Gentiles, cast out demons and taught us to love our enemies, to turn the other cheek and to go a second mile. Jesus taught us to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Jesus was poor, radical and revolutionary. He spoke truth in love to power.
So as best we are able, with God’s help, Way of Grace gives of it’s time, talents and treasures in support of a variety of missions locally, nationally and globally. As much as possible, Way of Grace engages in hands-on mission. We believe mission is much more than giving money. Mission is also about forming relationships and building community. It is in community and relationships that the kingdom of God can truly be seen.
The way of Jesus requires justice. Practicing justice is a very tall order in our society, and we know we fall short, but we do what we can and beg God’s mercy and forgiveness for our part in an unjust world.
